WELCOME TO SMOOTH JAZZ NEW YORK, YOUR HOME FOR CONCERTS AND SMOOTH JAZZ CRUISES
Wishing Boney James a Speedy Recovery
Recently you may have heard that saxophonist Boney James was hit by a drunk driver on his way home from his performance at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Jazz Festival.
Boney was rear-ended him at 70 miles per hour, “causing a gash in his chin that resulted in 14 stitches, a fractured jaw and two broken teeth.” The accident occurred while Boney was talking to his wife on speaker phone. After being pulled from his car by passers-by Boney was taken to the hospital by Long Beach Fire & Rescue. He was released from the hospital early the next morning. In a press release, Boney said, “I’m euphoric … I’m lucky I wasn’t killed. I just had a near death experience and am relatively unscathed.”
Boney James’ BMW was totaled but his saxophones were in the trunk and are undamaged. James’ teeth are now repaired, and although a May 21st show in Columbia, South Carolina was cancelled, the rest of his shows are expected to continue. We wish Boney a speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing him back on the stage.
