Wednesday July 17: Smooth Cruise: The Stylistics

We are pleased to open our 2019 Smooth Cruise season with The Stylistics. It’s our Opening night on The Spirit of New York. Our last full season on spirit was 2013 and we’re excited to be back. This is the line-up that features original members Arrion Love and Herbert Murrell with Jason Sharp, and now Grammy award winner Bo Henderson. Bo performed with The Dramatics and Lakeside before becoming lead singer of the Temptations in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. And they tore it up at their Beacon Theatre show earlier this year.

We are fortunate to be able to present The Stylistics in this up-close setting and fun atmosphere.

Wednesday July 31: Smooth Cruise: A Whole New World with Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle

Peabo Bryson with special guest Regina Belle – “A Whole New World”. The 1992 song credited as “Aladdin’s Theme” remains the only song from a Disney animated film to reach Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. With the release of the new Aladdin film, it is fitting that we present the original artists for a very special evening.

Wednesday August 7: Smooth Cruise: Summer Soul Jam with Blue Magic, Heatwave & The Blue Notes

August 7 will feature nothing but hits from some of the biggest and most influential recording artists in history. The Blue Notes, Heatwave, and Blue Magic perform sold out theater shows around the world.

The Blue Notes have had a seemingly endless river of hits including "If You Don’t Know Me By Now", "Wake Up Everybody" and "Don’t Leave Me This Way", which Thelma Houston took to number one on the pop charts. Credited with introducing the great Teddy Pendergrass to the world, the Blue Notes are one of the most revered and influential of the Phillie Soul groups.

Heatwave had three top ten hits with "Always and Forever" (#2), "Boogie Nights" (#2), and "The Groove Line" (#7).

Blue Magic, another one of the most popular Phillie Soul groups of the 1970’s, had had a top ten hit "Sideshow" #8, and R&B hits with "Three Ring Circus" and "What’s Come Over Me".

Wednesday August 14: Smooth Cruise: CD 101.9 Reunion with Special EFX All Stars: Chieli Minucci, Regina Carter, Eric Marienthal, Gerald Veasley & Lao Tizer

The Smooth Cruises started with CD 101.9 on the FM radio dial. Tonight we present a reunion with The Special Efx All Stars – An All Star Line up featuring Chielli Minucci, Regina Carter, Eric Marienthal, Gerald Veasley, and Lao Tizer.

Wednesday August 28: Smooth Cruise: The Whispers

The Whispers will be closing out the Summer Season. The Scotty brothers have been making hit records since the late 1960’s. The biggest of which were the Top 20 hits “And the Beat Goes On” and “Rock Steady”, both of which went to Number One on the R&B charts. The Whispers are another group that usually plays theaters and we are fortunate to have perform in the intimate and fun setting of the Smooth Cruise!
